SUMMARY:Nature recovery community drop-in event: aquatic habitats
DESCRIPTION:Join us 6.30-8.30pm Weds 13th May to explore the rivers\, streams and ponds that local landscapes\, and the growing pressures they face. With winters now wetter and summers hotter and drier\, our challenge is learning how to hold water in the landscape for longer\, improve water quality\, and support the wildlife that depends on it.This session brings together local partners including the River Wey Trust\, the Water Rangers\, and the local National Trust team\, to share what’s happening in our catchment\, from water‑quality testing to beavers\, water voles\, Skunk cabbage and more. It’s a rare chance to see the latest local data\, ask questions\, and help shape practical projects for nature recovery in our area.Whether you’re a dog‑walker\, gardener\, parent\, angler\, swimmer\, or simply curious about the health of our waterways\, you’re warmly invited. Soft drinks\, biscuits and friendly faces provided. No need to book\, just drop in. More information here or email us at info@haslemerebiodiversity.com  \n\n\n\nSee less

SUMMARY:Swift Recovery Project: Home Assessments
DESCRIPTION:Following February’s registration window\, the Swift Recovery Project now moves into its assessment phase. Between 1 and 21 March\, our volunteer team will be visiting participating homes across Haslemere\, Shottermill and Beacon Hill to check whether each property offers the right conditions for swift nesting. \n\n\n\nSwifts need a high\, sheltered position\, ideally under eaves or gables\, with a clear flight path free from overhanging trees or wires. They approach their nest holes at speed\, so ensuring safe access is essential. Assessments also help us determine the best orientation for each box\, avoiding overheating and maximising the chances of attracting breeding pairs. \n\n\n\nThese visits are quick\, friendly and carried out from the outside of the property. Once assessments are complete\, eligible homes will be scheduled for installation during the final project phase in late March and early April\, just before the swifts return from Africa. \n\n\n\nThis assessment window is a key step in creating a network of safe\, suitable nest sites across the town\, a community effort to welcome these extraordinary birds back to our summer skies.
